Best Western Maryland Zirakpur: Surprisingly Indian
Abstract: Our stay at the BWM was a pleasant one albeit felt too Indian in terms of the food. Small portions will keep some at bay for future trips but I would visit again just for the service. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Best Western is the American equivalent of McDonald's but with a little more oomph. The brand is synonymous with great quality and service and should be a safe bet for someone traveling with a family anywhere.
The BW at Zirakpur is an exception to this standard and when you enter, the first thing you see is a sign saying, "Owned and Run Independently". This is not necessarily a bad thing, however, in this case, is could be a bad omen.
Our visit was on the 2nd July 2017 with reservations made via 'MakeMyTrip'. An executive room was booked with a lunch and dinner plan which entitles two adults and one child to the buffet which set me back by 2500 INR.
The hotel is situated behind a gas station which is pretty weird but they have made arrangements for parking so that is a good start. Check-in was event free but nothing was offered on arrival which is quite odd since a simple offering is pretty standard these days. The staff seemed tired but prompt. A smile and welcome would have been nice but we were not there for the pleasantries.
Our room number was 502 and had the basic amenities and clean sheets. The people next door complained about a smelly mattress which was not resolved and could not be resolved. Room service was fast and housekeeping was friendly. That was the highlight of the stay.
The quality of the food was not excellent and the servings were too small, even for a big hotel. No one asked us for any feedback for the food or the stay. I would have liked to see portions that would feed at least two considering the pricing.
The buffet was a bit stingy with just one non-veg item and four veg items. The service was prompt but felt like they were in the off-season mode. They kept feeding us though I loved that aspect of the restaurant.
Considering the amount I paid for the room, breakfast, and dinner, the BWM was the best bang-for-the-buck hotel I have stayed in a while. Call them up to see if they can arrange something of a discount and if they don't check out the deals on travel sites for coupons.
This gets 4.5 starts out of 5
